Press Release

The National Audit Office (NAO) of Malta welcomed Mr Einar Gørrissen, Director General of the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI), for an official visit to Malta from 23 to 24 July 2026. The INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) is the capacity development body of INTOSAI – the global organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions – and supports national audit institutions worldwide in strengthening their independence, professionalism and impact. During his visit, Mr Gørrissen met with the Auditor General and members of the NAO’s senior management team and staff. This morning he also delivered a most informative and interesting address to NAO employees, sharing insights into IDI’s work and the evolving challenges and opportunities facing Supreme Audit Institutions worldwide. The programme also included a meeting with the Permanent Secretary within the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs, Mr Christopher Cutajar, and a courtesy visit to the House of Representatives, where Mr Gørrissen met with the Speaker of the House, Carmelo Abela and the Clerk to the House, Ms Eleanor Scerri.
The NAO has enjoyed a close and productive relationship with IDI for many years. In addition to participating in IDI’s professional development programmes, NAO staff contribute to its international initiatives as resource persons, sharing their expertise with peer Supreme Audit Institutions across the world. The visit further strengthened this partnership and reaffirmed the shared commitment of both organisations to advancing excellence in public sector auditing.
