Press Release

For the ninth successive year, the Auditor General, Mr Charles Deguara, presented to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Anġlu Farrugia, the National Audit Office’s first volume of Follow-up Audit Reports for 2025, comprising a compilation of ten reports.

This Office has once again reviewed a number of audits conducted in recent years to assess the extent to which the Executive has implemented the main recommendations. Indeed, every credible national audit institution is expected to have a robust follow-up mechanism in place, since the timely implementation of its recommendations is essential for strengthening good governance.

An analysis on the degree of implementation of the respective recommendations was undertaken on past Financial and Compliance audits as follows:

  • Tourism Zones Regeneration Agency
  • Revenue by Local Councils
  • Widows’ Pensions
  • Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disability
  • Ministry for Gozo and Planning
  • Electric Vehicle Charging Pillars
  • Malta Tax and Customs Administration – Customs
  • National Literacy Agency
  • Court Services Agency
  • Transport Malta

This year’s follow-up evaluation indicates that practically 80% of the recommendations analysed by this Office were either implemented in full or in part, or were in the process of being implemented by the entities concerned. Individual implementation percentages in respect of each of these ten audits are also included in this Report.
