Press Release

Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia, accompanied by Ms Eleanor Scerri, Clerk to the House, and Mr Ancel Farrugia Migneco, Private Secretary, made an official visit at the National Audit Office (NAO). On arrival, he was greeted by the Auditor General Mr Charles Deguara, and Deputy Auditor General Mr Noel Camilleri, both Officers of Parliament.

During this visit, Mr Deguara presented Speaker Farrugia with the ‘Report by the Auditor General – Public Accounts for year 2023’, a statutory report that will be issued later on this afternoon. This voluminous publication essentially incorporates 32 audit assignments carried out by the Financial and Compliance Section within the NAO. As customary, it also includes a detailed and informative analysis of the Financial Report 2023 as well as an extensive overview of the Statement of Arrears of Revenue for the same year, as submitted to Treasury by the respective ministry, department and entity.

In a short address to all NAO staff, Speaker Anġlu Farrugia acknowledged the excellent work carried out by the NAO team whose constitutional duty is to provide Parliament with assurance that public funds have been spent well, in compliance with prevailing rules and regulations. On his part, Auditor General Charles Deguara thanked Speaker Farrugia for his ongoing support to the Office, as evidenced by today’s official visit.

At the end of the visit, Speaker Farrugia met NAO staff present for this occasion to convey his personal appreciation for their work and commitment.
