Report on the Work and Activities of the National Audit Office – 2015

Anthony C. Mifsud, Auditor General, presented to the Hon. Dr. Angelo Farrugia, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the annual report on the Work and Activities of the National Audit Office (NAO) for the year ending 31 December 2015.

The Auditor General introduces the Report with an overview of the activities, developments, tasks and achievements by NAO for the year being reported upon.

The Report provides an outline of NAO’s legal framework, key results for the year 2015, and current challenges being faced by the Office. It also refers to NAO reports published throughout 2015, which include Financial and Compliance, Performance, Special and Investigative, and IT Audit Reports. Summaries of all audit reports published throughout 2015 are also included.

A detailed description of the human resources at the Office is also made relating to staff composition, qualifications, training, as well as work experiences at NAO by new recruits.

NAO’s interaction with the Public Accounts Committee and NAO Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives throughout 2015 is also presented.

Furthermore, cooperation with other institutions, such as the Government Administration, other Auditors, University of Malta, Media, Civil Society, and participation in Committees, is also referred to.

The Report highlights the main local and overseas meetings in which NAO senior officials actively participated. Local visits at NAO included a meeting with the Malta Fiscal Advisory Council and a bilateral cooperation visit of a delegation from the Italian Corte dei Conti. Overseas events included visits by NAO senior officials to the EU Network of Supreme Audit Institutions (the EU Contact Committee) Meetings. The organisation of the 13th EUROSAI (European Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions) Working Group on Environmental Audit Annual Meeting was held in Malta and hosted by the NAO.
