National Audit Office of Malta hosts high-level meeting with the Audit Bureau of Libya

Press Release

The Auditor General, Charles Deguara, welcomed a delegation from the Audit Bureau of Libya to Malta on Friday, 31 July, for a high-level meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two Supreme Audit Institutions.

Mr Deguara was accompanied by Deputy Auditor General, Noel Camilleri, and Dr Rebecca Vassallo, Liaison Officer for International Affairs. The Libyan delegation was headed by President Khaled Shakshak and included two officials from the Audit Bureau of Libya.

Auditor General Charles Deguara welcomed the opportunity to engage with his Libyan counterpart, noting that collaboration between Supreme Audit Institutions contributes to the exchange of expertise, the promotion of professional excellence and the strengthening of public financial oversight. He emphasised that this is particularly significant in the case of neighbouring countries, whose longstanding collaboration and friendship are built on solid foundations. During the meeting, various opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in public sector auditing were discussed. Particular attention was given to areas of mutual interest, including the exchange of professional knowledge, audit methodologies and best practices, as well as capacity-building initiatives.

The National Audit Office wishes to express its appreciation to the Embassy of Malta in Tripoli, particularly our Ambassador, Franklin Aquilina, who was actively involved in discussions leading to the meeting, and to the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs for its support in facilitating the visit.
