Last November, in close collaboration with the European Court of Auditors, our National Audit Office hosted in Malta the EU Contact Committee Meeting that essentially consists of an annual meeting for all Auditors General and Presidents of the national audit offices of EU Member States and Candidate Countries. This was the first time that our NAO hosted this very important event. During our meeting, it was agreed that the national audit institution of France will host the 2026 EU Contact Committee Meeting.
Thus, to commemorate the successful organisation of this highly prestigious event, we have just published an interesting book that, amongst other things, includes messages from the key stakeholders as well as photographs of this event’s key moments. These include the two-day Contact Committee Meeting itself, particularly the inspiring welcoming speech by the Hon Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Anglu Farrugia, as well as all the social occasions that were held during these three days. During all these events, we managed to ensure that all participants would have the opportunity to flavour some of our extremely rich historical and cultural heritage. Amongst others, these included a welcome event at the Verdala Palace, courtesy of the President of Malta, H.E. Myriam Spiteri Debono, a networking dinner at the Mediterranean Conference Centre and a walk-about in Valletta, ending with a guided tour at our unique national treasure, St John’s Co-Cathedral. The farewell event was held at the Muza, the National Community Art Museum, also in Valletta.
At the end of the book, one finds also various messages of congratulations for the excellent organisation and outcomes of this Malta Event, received by the Auditor General from various Heads and senior officials of participating national audit institutions.
This book will be circulated to all national audit institutions who participated in the Malta Meeting. Undoubtedly, it will serve as a memorable memento of our deliberations and discussions during this fruitful and interesting Meeting, focusing on the competitivity of the European Union, as well as the participants’ pleasant stay in Malta, during which many new friendships and networking contacts were forged.
Recently, the Auditor General, Charles Deguara, presented a copy of this book to the Prime Minister, Hon Robert Abela, and the Leader of the Opposition, Hon Alex Borg. Both conveyed their appreciation for the excellent work undertaken by the National Audit Office.
The NAO is proud that this publication was produced exclusively inhouse; thus, heartfelt thanks to the NAO colleagues who were involved in this initiative. Particularly, Dorianne Frendo who was responsible for the excellent production of this book, and Dr Rebecca Vassallo and Caroline Fenech who patiently assisted in the editing of all messages, articles and photographs reproduced therein. Thanks also to our colleagues at the Government Printing Press where this book was printed.
