The European Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI) is holding the final meeting of the Strategic Goal 1 Project Group Travelling Club of Experts, which is co-chaired by the Supreme Audit Institutions of Lithuania and Israel. This key event is being hosted by the National Audit Office of Malta and is being held at the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Floriana, Malta, on June 5-6, 2024. The event is taking place in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and virtual participation.
Today, the event was opened by Mr. Charles Deguara, Auditor General, who highlighted the importance and topicality of the themes to be discussed. Ms Zivile Kindurte, Deputy Auditor General of Lithuania and Mr. Matanyahu Englman, State Comptroller and Ombudsman of Israel, also delivered opening speeches, with the latter delivering his speech online. Dr George-Marius Hyzler, Member of the European Court of Auditors also attended the seminar. The themes of this event feature presentations and discussions from a number of speakers from EU Supreme Audit Institutions on ‘AI – Opportunities for Public Sector Audit’ and on ‘Combined Audits: practices and benefits of conducting Performance, Financial and Compliance Audits together’. Tomorrow, workshops will be held on lessons learnt and proposed future activities of the Project Group as well as a more in-depth discussion on the Combined Audits theme.
This event marks the culmination of the current activities of the Travelling Club of Experts project, aimed at enhancing the knowledge and capabilities of public sector auditors across Europe. Attendees have the opportunity to engage with leading experts, discuss the latest trends in AI and comprehensive audits, and contribute to shaping future initiatives.
On 6 June, Mr. Charles Deguara, Auditor General and Mr. Noel Camilleri, Deputy Auditor General will also take the opportunity to meet Ms Zivile Kindurte, Deputy Auditor General of Lithuania for a bilateral meeting between the two Supreme Audit Institutions to discuss matters of mutual interest, as well as future cooperation.
