Follow-up Audit Reports, 2026 – Publication issued by the National Audit Office

Press Release

For the tenth successive year, the Auditor General, Mr Charles Deguara, presented to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Carmelo Abela, the National Audit Office’s first volume of Follow-up Audit Reports for 2026, comprising a compilation of eight reports.

This Office has once again reviewed Financial and Compliance audits conducted in recent years essentially to assess the extent to which the respective auditee has implemented the main recommendations contained therein. Indeed, every credible national audit institution is expected to have a robust follow-up mechanism in place, since the timely implementation of its recommendations is essential for strengthening good governance across the public sector.

The follow-up evaluation for this year found that a significant number of the recommendations examined by this Office had been fully or partially addressed, or were undergoing implementation by the entities concerned. The Report also provides individual rates of progress for each of the eight audits covered by the review, namely:

•Servizz.gov
•Land Registration Agency
•Short-term Benefits
•National Development and Social Fund
•Afternoon School Programme, SkolaSajf and Klabb 3-16
•Energy Performance Certificates
•Mater Dei Hospital – Non-medical Equipment Facilities Management
•Mental Health Services
