The Auditor General, Mr Anthony Mifsud, yesterday presented to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Carmelo Abela MP, the Annual Report on the Works and Activities of the National Audit Office for the year 2009.

The document was presented in accordance with Sections 5 and 7 of the First Schedule to the Auditor General and National Audit Office Act (Cap. 396). The report was subsequently laid on the Table of the House by the Deputy Speaker during Sitting 180 of the 13th January 2010.

The report refers to a substantial number of reports prepared by the National Audit Office during the year 2009, which reports include the Annual Audit Report on the Public Accounts 2008 and several investigative and performance audit reports. Reference is also made to various initiatives, which include the updating of policies carried out with regard to audit methodologies and to the consolidation of the National Audit Office IT strategy.

During the Auditor General’s call on the Deputy Speaker, Hon Carmelo Abela emphasized the importance of the role the National Audit Office executes on behalf of Parliament.
