President of Malta Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca yesterday paid her last official visit to the National
Audit Office (NAO). The President’s delegation was welcomed by the Auditor General, Mr Charles
Deguara, and by the Deputy Auditor General, Mr Noel Camilleri. During a meeting with top officials
of the NAO, President Coleiro Preca conveyed her heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the people of
Malta and Gozo to the Auditor General and his team for their incessant work which is carried out
with all due impartiality and integrity in the best interest of our citizens. “I consider this Office as one
of the pillars of our democratic system, and as one which provides assurance of good governance to
our citizens” affirmed the President.

The Auditor General, on behalf of all NAO staff, wholeheartedly thanked the President for her
continuous support to this Office throughout her Presidency. He emphasised that the NAO is actively
commited to continue carrying out its constitutional mandate in the best manner possible, particularly
by ensuring that all its reports are invariably based on the fundamental values of integrity, objectivity
and total impartiality. In this context, Mr Deguara acknowledged and praised the continuous support
of the Deputy Auditor General, as well as the dedication and competence of the Office’s management
and all its employees, a united team of whom he was so proud. He concluded by highlighting that
the Office should always focus on its principal objective, namely the continuous enhancement of
good governance within the public service, in line with prevailing rules and regulations, in the best
interest of our citizens.

The President of Malta, took the opportunity to personally meet all NAO staff to whom she conveyed
her appreciation for their professional work.
