On Friday 5th May 2017, Charles Deguara, Auditor General, and Tanya Mercieca, Assistant Auditor General, took part in a panel discussion during the Conference organised by the Local Government Department regarding the Compliance and Concerns from the Report by the Auditor General on the Workings of Local Government for 2015.  In essence, their interventions focused on the need of fiscal discipline to ensure that public funds are used by Local Councils in the most effective manner possible and in line with existing rules and regulations.  They also answered a number of questions put forward by some of the Executive Secretaries who attended this Conference. The other members of the panel were Margaret Bonello-Cole, Director - Grant Thornton, Mario Fava, President - Local Councils Association, and Paul Gatt, President - ANSEK.
